It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Hallis on August 7th, 2015, at the age of 91.

Mary was born in Montreal on May 24th, Victoria Day, 1924 - one of eight children of James Wall from Dublin Ireland and Augusta Renee ( Rose ) from Paris, France.
On October 3rd, 1944, Mary married the love of her life, Michael Hallis, and the couple settled down in Montreal South, later known as Longueuil.
They raised two sons, Ron and Allen.
And as the boys were growing up, Mary still found time to develop a love for dogs. Starting with the first family pet, our Collie Prince, then our championship German Shepherds, Mary had the patience and determination for training, winning show ribbons along the way. She continued to find companionship with her dogs throughout her life.

During the 60s, Mary began one of her life's passions, as a Foster Mother, a vocation she continued for the next 25 years or more. During that time, Mary and Mike cared for, in the most loving way, many foster children who desperately needed a stable family environment to help them during their formative years. No child's case was too difficult for Mary, and in fact, she volunteered on several occasions to take in children who had come from very challenging and tough family situations.
In 1986, Mary was recognized and honoured at an event by the Children's Aid Society in Montreal for her 25 years of service and dedication helping foster children. In the mid 80s
Mary and Mike retired and moved to Ingleside, Ontario, where they enjoyed life together for the next 15 years. Even in their senior years, they continued to care for Foster children and Mary was again recognized in 1998 by the Foster Parents Society of Ontario for ten years of service. Sadly, in 2001, Mary was widowed and in 2004, she moved to Oakville, Ontario into The Waterford, a brand new Long Term Care Facility.
Mary quickly became part of the "Waterford Family". She served on committees, was a regular volunteer in the dining room helping residents with their meals, and entertained all who would listen with her beautiful musical voice - that lady loved to sing.
In 2004, Mary fell in love for the second time in her life with Harry, a resident at the Waterford. The two of them were inseparable and gave each other so much to live for.
Mary was heartbroken when her oldest son Ron passed away in November, 2006, followed by Harry a short time later.
Throughout her life, Mary handled life's challenges with dignity and a positive attitude - it was all part of God's will.
In her later years, as her health began to fail, Mary could still be found singing a song, cracking a joke, and just brightening up the day of every resident or staff member she was around.
Mary will be remembered as a loving and caring person. She was so proud of her family, her two sons and their families - and especially her four grandchildren. The tireless work she did as a Foster Mother was not in vain - many of the children she cared for kept in touch with Mary over the years and still call her Mom to this day.
She will be missed

We love you Mom ( Grandma )

The family cannot say enough about the care Mary received at a The Waterford. Special thanks to Vesna Vokic, Dr Welland, Fahsia, Sephlyn, Cashmir, Tish, and all the staff.
Also, a big thank you to Dr. Heffernan, and the doctors and nurses at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to Mary on more than one occasion
